Here’s a Few Things Not To Do After Your Engagement
As a wedding consultant, I am really excited for you. Think about all the work ahead of you. But also consider how exciting this time will be. Many people jump right in and get way over their head. Here’s a few common mistakes that some people make at the beginning of their engagement.
Avoid…Starting Small. Remember, this is your big day. Think of what would make your wedding the best day of your life. It’s best to start big and then make your dreams fit into your wonderful themed wedding budget. Try to get the big items completed first, like booking the venue, hiring your vendors, and working on your guest list. A wedding planner can be indispensable when completing these tasks. Work on the smaller stuff a little closer to the wedding date.
Avoid…Rushing It. Relax and focus on you and your sweetie. There’s no reason to rush into anything. By all means talk about your plans, set a date and maybe talk about what overall type of wedding you want. But take it easy,…it’s time to celebrate!
Avoid…Talking About Your Budget. This is so important! Make sure all responsible parties are included in this discussion. In order to make big decisions, you’ll need to have an idea of what your top amount will be. Believe it or not, my upper wedding packages include a budget analysis, which help decide what categories in which you need to allocate your funds.
Avoid…Making Promises. Don’t make promises you can’t keep. For instance, don’t tell you little cousin that she can do a particular reading without even thinking about the program. Everyone is excited for you and wants to be involved, but considered all aspects of the ceremony before asking for their assistance.
Avoid…Immediately Shopping For Your Wedding Gown. Think about it! Shouldn’t you pick your venue first, so you know how to dress? Your venue and time of the wedding really tells the story of what kind of gown starts your search. Of course, body type and coloring is also key to the gown you pick for your big day.
Avoid…Being Too Rigid. I know, you know what you want! But keep an open mind. This is another reason to hire a wedding planner. You would be surprised at how many ideas from great venues, to the smallest items, such as place cards we can find for you. Always be ready to accept new ideas. The more you let things flow, the smoother and happier you will be.
